The 3-step routine
Same flow for pools, hot tubs, and spas. Hold off on shaking the strip, the reagents need that water to react.
2 SECONDS
Dip the strip
Submerge the strip in water for 2 seconds, then pull it out. Don't shake off excess water, the reagents need it to develop.
15 SECONDS
Hold it level
Keep the strip flat and steady for 15 seconds. The reagent pads need that window to react fully and show stable color.
COMPARE NOW
Match the colors
Hold the strip up to the color chart on the bottle right after the 15-second mark. Read it immediately, colors keep shifting after that window.
Reading the color chart
This is the same chart printed on your bottle. Match each pad on the strip to the closest color, top to bottom. The green "OK" bands show the target range for balanced water.

How often should I test my water?
For pools, test 2 to 3 times a week during peak season and at least once a week off-season. For hot tubs and spas, test before every use, or 2 to 3 times a week if it's running daily.
Do these work for saltwater pools?
Yes. Saltwater pools generate chlorine through a salt cell, but the chemistry you're balancing is the same: free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, hardness, and cyanuric acid. These strips read all of it.
Do the strips expire?
Sealed and stored properly, the strips are good for around 2 years from manufacture. Once opened, use within 90 days for best results. Always cap the bottle tightly and keep it away from heat and humidity.
Can I use these with the Eagle Ray digital tester?
Yes, these are the strips designed for Eagle Ray. You can read them manually against the bottle's color chart, or drop them in Eagle Ray for a digital read.
Do these test for copper or salt?
No. This 7-in-1 strip covers free chlorine, total chlorine, bromine, pH, total alkalinity, total hardness, and cyanuric acid. For salt or copper, you'll need a dedicated test.
Why do I have to read the strip immediately?
The reagent pads keep reacting after 15 seconds. If you wait too long to compare against the chart, the colors will shift past the right read. Read it the second the wait time hits.
What if my colors don't match the chart exactly?
Pick the closest match. Test strips give you a directional read, not a lab-grade number. If a value looks off, retest with a fresh strip and the same lighting.
What does the cyanuric acid pad need to be reliable?
For the cyanuric acid read to behave properly, your pH should sit between 7.0 and 8.4. If pH is way off, balance pH first, then retest cyanuric acid.
