🌊 Your Weekly Pool & Spa Read
Share
Welcome to Weekly Pool & Spa, your go-to read for pool and spa owners who love cool facts, smart tips, and the occasional myth-busting surprise. No boring sales talk, just fun and genuinely useful water wisdom.
So what do you say? Let’s dive in 💦
🧐 DID YOU KNOW?
Water can boil and freeze at the same time. No, really. It’s called the triple point, and it happens under very specific conditions, usually in space. Imagine if your hot tub pulled that trick.
Speaking of extreme water science, have you ever heard about the highest-altitude hot tub in the world?
🌍 A HOT TUB ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN?!
In 2007, a group of adventurers hauled an inflatable hot tub to the summit of Mont Blanc, Europe’s tallest peak at 15,777 feet.
The challenge? Water doesn’t boil normally at that altitude. To make a real, steaming soak happen in freezing conditions, they used special gas burners to heat the water under pressure.
We can’t confirm whether their pH was balanced, but we do know this. We’ll stick to soaking at sea level.
💭 Quick Pool & Spa Check
Ever notice how hot tubs can make people feel lightheaded?
Heat causes blood vessels to expand, which can lead to a temporary drop in blood pressure.
📌 Tip: If you ever feel dizzy, step out of the hot tub, cool down for a few minutes, and drink some water.
📊 FUN POLL: What’s Your Ideal Pool Temperature?
🥶 72° Cold plunge energy
😌 78° Refreshing, not freezing
🔥 85°+ Basically a giant hot tub
Vote in the poll and tell us your thoughts in the comments. We’ll share the results in an upcoming Weekly Pool & Spa issue.
🐬 RANDOM WATER FACT
Did you know dolphins use coral as medicine?
Scientists have discovered that dolphins rub against specific types of coral to help treat their skin. Proof that even marine animals enjoy a good spa day.
😕 Why Does Pool or Hot Tub Water Sometimes Feel Weird?
Have you ever stepped into your pool or hot tub and thought, “Why does the water feel slippery?”
That silky, almost slimy feeling isn’t your imagination. Your water chemistry is sending you a message.
📌 What Causes That Slick Feeling?
Low calcium hardness. Soft water can feel slick and unstable if calcium levels are too low.
Excess oils and lotions. Sunscreen, body lotions, and natural skin oils build up over time.
High pH levels. Too much pH increaser can make water feel unnaturally soft.
✅ How to Fix It
Test calcium hardness. If levels are below 150 ppm, add a calcium booster to stabilize the water.
Shower before soaking or swimming. This helps reduce oil and lotion buildup.
Check your pH. Aim for 7.4 to 7.6 for balanced, comfortable water.
💭 Quick Pool & Spa Reminder
Hot tub owners: Slick water or residue usually means it’s time for a balance check or deep clean.
Pool owners: Slippery surfaces can signal low calcium or early algae growth.
📊 POLL: Have You Ever Noticed Slippery Water?
🛁 Yes, and I didn’t know why
🤔 Yes, but it went away after maintenance

🐬 ONE LAST WATER FACT
Jellyfish are about 95 percent water, which means they’re almost as fluid as the water you’re hopefully relaxing in right now. Careful with your phone.
