California Pool & Spa Rule Changes – Are You Ready?

A few weeks ago, we shared that California is about to change the game for pool and spa owners. Now that we’re a little closer to the deadlines, it’s a good time to check in:

Have you started planning?

If not, don’t stress, but don’t wait either.

A Quick Recap:

Here’s what’s coming:

  • September 29, 2025: All newly sold pool and spa pump controls in California must be smart, internet-connected, and able to shift operation to off-peak energy hours (usually 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

  • January 1, 2026: Gas heaters will no longer be allowed for new installs on pools and spas. If you're adding a heater for the first time, it must be a heat pump, solar thermal, or heat recovery system.

Smart pumps. No new gas heaters. Plan ahead.

These rules are part of California’s push to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lighten the load on the power grid during peak hours.

What It Means for You

If you’re thinking about replacing or upgrading your equipment, or adding something new, now is the perfect time to act.

  • Need a new pool or spa pump? Make sure it's smart-control capable.

  • Installing a heater for the first time? Skip the gas. Heat pumps are the way forward.

AquaDoc has the equipment you need to stay compliant without the headache. We carry smart pool pumps and energy-efficient heat pump heaters that meet California’s upcoming standards.

Avoid the Pool Pump Buying Rush

As the deadlines get closer, inventory could tighten and installation schedules might fill up. Getting ahead of this now could save you a lot of time and stress later.

Have questions about the new rules or what your pool or spa setup needs? Just ask. We’re here to help make compliance easy.

Stay ready. Stay balanced. Stay AquaDoc.
