Why dogs should NOT be in your Hot Tub

Why dogs should NOT be in your Hot Tub

We love dogs—like, really love dogs. At AquaDoc, many of us are proud dog parents who’d do anything for our furry friends. Whether it’s long walks, sneaky treats under the table, or the best comfy spot on the couch, we totally get it. Dogs are family, and it’s only natural to want them to share in all our favorite activities—including soaking in the hot tub.

But here’s the tough truth: as much as we’d love to include our pups in every part of our lives, hot tubs just aren’t a good idea for them. And because we care so much about dogs (and your hot tub), we want to explain why keeping your pup out of the bubbles is the safest choice.

1. Hot Tubs Are Too Hot for Dogs

Let’s start with the obvious: hot tubs are, well, hot. While that’s the whole point for us humans, it’s not great for dogs. Dogs have higher body temperatures than us (around 101°F to 102.5°F), and they don’t sweat like we do to cool off.

Spending even a few minutes in a hot tub can cause your pup to overheat, leading to dehydration or, worse, heatstroke. And if you’ve ever seen a dog panting after a short walk on a warm day, imagine how they’d feel in a 100°F+ hot tub. Not worth the risk!

2. Hot Tub Chemicals Aren’t Dog-Safe

Your hot tub’s water is balanced with chemicals like chlorine or bromine to keep things clean and safe for humans. But those same chemicals can irritate your dog’s skin, eyes, and sensitive noses.

And let’s not forget: dogs love to drink water. If your pup takes a sip of that chemical-treated water, it can upset their stomach—or worse, make them seriously ill.

3. Fur + Hot Tubs = Disaster for Your Filter

If you’re a dog owner, you know how much they shed. Even with regular grooming, your dog’s fur will end up everywhere—including your hot tub.

That fur, along with the oils and dirt they bring with them, can quickly clog up your filters, making it harder to keep your water clean. And let’s face it—cleaning out a filter full of fur is not how you want to spend your post-soak relaxation time.

4. Safety First: Hot Tubs Aren’t Designed for Dogs

Hot tubs can be slippery, deep, and overwhelming for dogs. They might struggle to stay balanced, panic in the water, or have trouble getting out. Even if your pup loves the pool, hot tubs are a totally different environment. The last thing you want is a fun evening turning into a stressful situation.

Keep Your Dog(s) Close—Just Not in the Tub

We get it—you want your pup to be part of the fun. And while the hot tub isn’t the right place for them, they can still enjoy being nearby! Set them up with a cozy spot close to the action and give them some love while you soak.

If your dog loves water, consider filling a kiddie pool with fresh, cool water for their own splash zone. No chemicals, no overheating—just pure fun.

Dogs and Hot Tubs: Love Both, Keep Them Separate

At AquaDoc, we’re all about helping you enjoy your hot tub while making life easier. And as dog lovers, we want the best for your four-legged family members too. Keeping your pup out of the hot tub protects their health, keeps your water clean, and ensures everyone has a safe, stress-free time.

So, grab your favorite drink, call your pup over to hang out, and enjoy the soak—knowing you’re doing what’s best for both your tub and your best friend. 🐾

Because we’re dog people too, we get it. But trust us—your pup will be just as happy cheering you on from the sidelines.
